What should you do if someone insults you? According to Jesus, let them. Are you surprised or angry at what they said? Don’t be. And whatever you do, don’t return the insult. It’s not by chance that we use “a slap in the face” as a metaphor for an unexpected insult. It’s because Jesus tells us not to retaliate, but to turn the other cheek. With that in mind, here’s your REAL Challenge for the week:
Practice turning the other cheek!
Turning the other cheek isn’t pacifism, and it doesn’t mean we should put ourselves in danger. It’s simply a command to not retaliate over personal offenses, but it will set you apart. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 5:46b: “For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?” ~Matthew 5:46a
Don’t get angry and don’t retaliate, because Jesus wants us to simply turn the other cheek!
